In partnership with P&G Pakistan, we are working with Dr. Mubina Agboatwalla and her team at HOPE – one of our longest local NGO partnerships – to deliver clean drinking water to urban communities to reach an estimated 7000 people this summer.
Over the last three years, P&G has partnered with HOPE and our retail partner METRO Cash & Carry to provide nearly 45 million liters of clean drinking water to disaster-struck families in Pakistan, providing approximately 200,000 people with clean drinking water for 4 months. HOPE has responded to drought conditions, earthquakes, and floods which are recurrent perils in Sindh, Punjab and KPK provinces in Pakistan that have displaced many vulnerable families.
Karachi, the largest metropolitan area in the country, is home to several underserved communities where P&G Pakistan and our partner HOPE are collaborating to improve health and hygiene and help build these communities in need. In April, the team began providing clean drinking water to slum communities in Karachi. Though in close proximity to the urban center, these communities are a world away in terms of limited access to amenities like electricity and running water. The project is delivering P&G Purifier of Water packets during the hottest months, April – October, of this year. By October, the program will have helped 7,000 people, with clean drinking water by equipping families with a 4-month supply of packets and equipment essential for the purifying process. Families are also being educated on how to use the packets and the importance of proper sanitation and hygiene. Follow-up visits are taking place after distribution to check on progress and improvement in health.
Our Community Impact citizenship efforts like CSDW are deeply rooted in P&G’s purpose to touch and improve lives and demonstrate our commitment to give back to the communities where we live and work. Since the program began in 2004, CSDW has been helping to address the water crisis in Pakistan and has provided more than 850 million liters of clean water working with our NGO partners like HOPE.
